The family of the late candidate of the governor of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the state of Ondo, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, has renewed his call to justice for his sudden and controversial death.
The Akingboye/Betiku family, which made this call after a meeting held in Okitipupa, headquarters of the area of ​​the local government of the state, expressed sadness for the incident and reaffirmed confidence in the government and the police to unravel the mystery surrounding his death.
In a statement issued after the meeting, the family described the late businessman as a man who came out of humble beginnings to become a successful businessman and philanthropist, but lamented the circumstances surrounding his death.
Family sources said that the late Akingboye was last seen by his eldest son, Mr. Samuel Akingboye, who visited him one day before his death.
He explained that the son, Samuel, who resides in abroad, said that he and his father had agreed to meet again the next day before the tragedy occurred.
He, however, explained that the 68 -year -old businessman was found dead in suspicious circumstances in his Lagos residence.
According to reports, he revealed that the body of the deceased political was discovered near the backyard that leads to children’s rooms, with visible bruises on the face and arms, and blood stained clothes.
According to him, at the time of the incident, the second wife of the deceased, Mrs. Christianah Akingboye, four of her children, two of her brothers and approximately 13 domestic staff were at home with him in the complex.
Not convinced by home explanations, Samuel, according to the reports, requested the Lagos State Police Command, which caused the transfer of the case to the Homicide Department in Panti, Yaba, while several people, including relatives and domestic workers, have been interrogated.
A police source said that forensic exams and an autopsy report are being expected to determine the exact cause of death, but the police have not yet issued a formal statement about their preliminary findings.
Meanwhile, the family praised the Governor of the State of Ondo, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for his intervention and security that justice would not be compromised.
In a letter signed jointly by the bosses of the two families, Papa Clement Betiku and Pastor Akintemi Michael Akingboye, the family thanked the governor for showing concern and promised support for transparent investigation.
The letter addressed to Aiyedatiwa said: “On behalf of the entire extended family of Akingboye/Betiku, we write from Okitipupa to recommend and appreciate with all my heart the leadership of the governor and the commitment to ensure that justice is done. Justice must be served without fear, and without attempting to cover up this case will be tolerated.
“The family is deeply concerned and determined to see this matter until its logical conclusion. We reaffirm that whoever is who has had a hand in this serious act will not escape so much from the anger of God and the due process of the law.
“In the same way, any attempt of anyone, in any way, to cover up the truth will encounter the strongest resistance of the family and all justice lovers.”
The family also praised the police force of Nigeria for their rapid response and professional management of the investigation, urging the command to follow the case to a logical conclusion.
“We also recognize and appreciate the efforts of Nigeria’s police force, particularly through the Homicide Department in Panti, Yaba, Lagos, for its commitment, physical analysis and scientific approaches deployed so far in the investigation.
“However, we urge not to stay without stone trace until the true cause of Oba’s death is unraveling and justice is served transparently and conclusively.
“As a family, we remain unwavering in our determination to ensure that the mystery behind his sudden death is exposed and that justice is done in honor of his memory, in the interest of the State and for the sake of posterity
“Once again, we recommend and support your excellence for your intervention and continuous commitment to justice. That God grants him wisdom and strength as he advances in the state in justice and truth,” the statement added.
Until his death, Akingboy was an outstanding politician in the state, entrepreneur and philanthropist with investments in real estate, oil and gas, and agriculture.
His death has continued to attract the attention and debate of the public as research continues on the circumstances that surround him.
