SDP does not work for APC – Adebayo

The candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the presidential elections of 2023, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has discredited insinuations that the party was working undercover for the ruling of the Congress of the Progressive (APC).

He said he was not aware of such agreement, emphasizing that the SDP was currently strategies before the 2027 elections.

However, he admitted that some party members could have their loyalty in other places, but pointed out that this was one of the challenges that the leadership of the party was working to address.

“We do not know rumors and talks, but what I know is what the party is doing. I only participate in what the SDP is officially doing.

“But what I discover is that people who are in political parties tend to have loyalty outside their political parties. I think it is part of the problems we try to solve by bringing more ethical leaders.

“But all my policy, 100 percent of my own policy, is done within the SDP. And in this day and time, there is no way you can have relationships with people without evidence of it. Or they will see you with them, you will take a photo with them, they will draw your money, or will track you the activity.

“So, if you really want to know where someone belongs, apart from just passing rumors or propaganda, they will know.

“Then, there may be elements of people in the SDP that also sympathize with other parts, but what we intend to do is, when we catch them, we relegate or expel them,” he said.

In the 65 years of Independence of Nigeria, Adebayo regretted that leaders could not fulfill the dreams of the country’s founding parents.

It declated the fact that corruption and the rule of law had remained recurring campaign problems 65 years after independence, a development that described as unfortunate.

He pointed out that everyone knew that corruption was bad and unacceptable and should not exist in the system, but regretted that instead of treating it as something that should not arise in the first place, successive administrations had used it as a campaign impulse.

He also declared that Nigeria’s perennial problems were traceable to their history.

According to him, Nigeria’s story is rooted in commerce, one driven by external need.

“Nigeria began simply as a commercial area, as it has free trade zones or export processing areas today.

“So it is an area. It is like the arbitrariness with which they created areas for discos: Lagos Disco, Ibadan Disco, Benin Disco, Yola Disco, different discos, you know. This is how Nigeria went to the Royal Niger Company. It was just a commercial area. And those commercial areas were different kingdoms and communities and that,” he said.
