Award-winning Nigerian singer and record producer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, says his decision to kick off his Nigerian concert tour in Akwa Ibom was influenced by the world-class facilities and serene environment of the state.

Speaking at a pre-concert reception hosted by Governor Umo Eno and Senate President Godswill Akpabio in Uyo on Sunday, the music star said Akwa Ibom stood out among several African venues being considered for her first live show in Nigeria in 14 years.

“When we looked around Africa, five places emerged and Akwa Ibom was at the top of the list,” Davido said. “A lot of people fly in from other states that don’t have this type of facility. You have a standard facility, so that’s why we’re starting here.”

The Timeless singer described Akwa Ibom as a “beautiful state,” adding that if all Nigerian states had similar infrastructure and security, he would feel more comfortable traveling around the country.

He congratulated Governor Eno for his commitment to peace, youth empowerment and infrastructure development.

“Everything in Akwa Ibom State is beautiful,” he said. “I congratulate the governor for providing platforms for young people to excel. I am excited: the stadium is already full and we are ready to close it.”

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, in his speech commended Governor Eno for being pro-youth as well as pro-sports. He also praised Davido for mentoring young Nigerian artistes and urged him to extend the opportunity to emerging Akwa Ibom talents as he continues his tour abroad.

Governor Eno, in turn, thanked Davido for choosing Akwa Ibom as the starting point for his concert series and for inspiring young creatives across Nigeria.

“You’ve taken your career to the zenith and it’s an inspiration to young people to know that what they set out to do is achievable,” Eno said.

“We are a youth-friendly state and we appreciate you sharing the stage with our local artists. It shows them that one day they too can be like you.”

Davido’s concert in Uyo marks the beginning of his highly anticipated Akwa Ibom tour, following his successful shows across the United States earlier this year.
