Adebayo Adedamola has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2026 Osun elections.
Adedamola obtained 919 of the 957 valid votes in the primaries held in Osogbo on Tuesday.
Announcing the result, the president of the primaries, Humphrey Abba, said: “Void votes 20. We told you before that one of the candidates withdrew.
“The candidate who obtained the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes and is elected and re-elected.”
The secretary of the committee overseeing the exercise, Sunday Solarin, declared voting open shortly after delegates completed accreditation around 11:35 am.

Solarin said Adeleke and Adebayo Adedamola were the two candidates on the ticket, adding that Adeleke had already resigned from the party.
He also explained that any vote cast in favor of Adeleke “would eventually amount to a waste,” and urged delegates to follow voting guidelines.
Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and a committee headed by Humphrey Abba of the PDP national headquarters monitored the exercise.
Security officers from the Department of State Security (DSS), the Nigerian Police and Security Forces and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) were stationed at the entrance and exit of the venue.
The proceedings formally began at 11:07 a.m., with delegates verifying their names before casting their votes.
Earlier, Tribune Online reported that Adeleke formally resigned from the PDP.
His resignation letter, dated November 4, 2025, was addressed to PDP Ward 2 Chairman, Sagba Abogunde of Ede North Local Government. PUNCH Online obtained a copy in the early hours of Tuesday.
The letter read in part: “Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership in the PDP with immediate effect.
“I thank the Peoples Democratic Party for the opportunities they gave me for my elections as a Senator (representing Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the Peoples Democratic Party.”
The state Commissioner for Information and Public Education, Kolapo Alimi, confirmed the news in a radio program followed by Tribune Online, explaining the reasons why the governor renounced his party membership.
