Joint Task Force Theater Commander, North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), Major General Warrah Idris, has tasked troops to prepare for intensified operations aimed at completely eradicating banditry across the region.
General Idris took charge on Wednesday during an operational visit to the 8 Division Headquarters Training School in Sokoto, where he assessed the continuing training and readiness of personnel.
Addressing the troops, the Commander expressed satisfaction over the participation, confidence and discipline displayed during the drills, noting that the achievements recorded so far, including areas cleared, terrorists neutralized and weapons recovered, were “truly impressive”.
However, he said the successes should serve as motivation for even greater action.
“We are not going to give up on what we have been doing. Rather, we will improve it. I will push the sector to increase the pace. So prepare your minds. Prepare yourselves and prepare yourselves psychologically,” he told the soldiers.
General Idris stressed that OPFY remains fully committed to restoring peace and security in the North West, adding that the mission leaves no room for complacency.
“We are not here to dance or party with bandits. We are here to completely eradicate banditry in this region and in our country in general. The burden falls on us and we must be up to the task,” he said.
He emphasized that the success of operations depends on discipline, strict regimentation and continuous training, urging senior non-commissioned officers to enforce these values within their units.
The Commander assured the troops that those injured in the line of duty are being properly cared for and encouraged them to give their best during missions, knowing that the military remains committed to their well-being.
General Idris also praised Man O’ War instructors who support the division’s training program and said their contribution to troop readiness is greatly appreciated.
He urged troops to maintain focus and professionalism as OPFY prepares to launch the next phase of its operations.
