Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke on Thursday said his administration is not only building roads and bridges but is also making significant strides in technology, innovation and empowerment of the digital economy.

The governor made these remarks while addressing stakeholders in innovation, science, technology and digital economy at the Osun Tech Hangout, held at the State Government Banquet Hall, Osogbo.

Adeleke stated that his government is opening up the electricity sector for investment and consumer satisfaction, adding that Osun, under his leadership, is fast becoming a leader in environmental sustainability, technological innovation and energy diversification.

He noted that his administration has prioritized digital applications in governance, streamlining business processes through the Osun Investment Portal, 45-day C of O processing initiative and a harmonized and digitized annual tax billing system. “We are expanding digital access through free Wi-Fi Imole,” he added.

The governor also announced the approval of a 20-hectare Osun Digital City for digital startups and companies, explaining that the project is designed to house innovation parks and digital hubs.

“These improvements are making government operations faster and more responsive,” he said. “Osun One, a one-stop shop for all government processes, is transforming service delivery. Security has been strengthened through the AI-powered 293 emergency centre, the Safe City Initiative and the Security Trust Fund.”

Adeleke further revealed that the Osun Tech Festival, which aims to showcase youth creativity, attract global partnerships and position the state as a leading technology destination, will be held from February 19 to 20, 2026.

“We are preparing the next generation. ICT training and annual innovation challenges are creating opportunities for entrepreneurship and job growth,” he said. He directed the Ministry of Innovation, Science, Technology and Digital Economy to roll out Imole EduPods (solar-powered containerized CBT centers) across the state to prepare students for exams and promote digital inclusion. He also ordered the establishment of the Osun Tech Trust Fund to finance these initiatives and strengthen the startup ecosystem.

Speaking on energy sector reforms, Adeleke said his administration is expanding the state’s energy mix to liberalize energy access. He revealed that the legal framework for the state’s energy sector has been finalized, paving the way for private investment and effective regulation.

“I have enacted the Osun State Electricity Market Bill. This is a historic step towards sub-national management and expansion of the energy sector,” he noted, directing the Ministry of Energy to immediately establish an implementation mechanism.

In his remarks, Special Advisor to the Governor on Innovation, Science, Technology and Digital Economy, Azeez Badmus, reiterated that the administration is committed to building an enabling environment for startups and innovators. He said the government is providing mentoring, guidance and resources to help businesses thrive across the state.

He urged stakeholders to collaborate with the government, noting that “together, we can strengthen Osun’s technology ecosystem through shared vision and partnership.”

Badmus added that Osun Tech Hangout offers a unique opportunity for innovators, entrepreneurs and technology enthusiasts to share ideas, expand digital connectivity and develop supportive innovation spaces that promote creativity and growth.

“Equipping our young people and future innovators is a priority,” he concluded. “Targeted ICT training and skills development programs are preparing the next generation to succeed in a technology-driven economy, creating pathways to sustainable opportunities, entrepreneurship and careers.”
