Hadejia Local Government Area of Jigawa received a total of 58,650 doses of polio vaccine for the latest round of this year’s (2025) polio immunization exercise which began earlier this week.
This was revealed by the Hadejia Primary Healthcare Development Manager, Alhaji Salisu Manu Gujungu, while speaking to Online Tribune in Hadejia about polio and rotten immunization exercise, said: “The Hadejia PHC office received more than 58, 650 vaccine doses from the PHCDA state.”
Alhaji Salisu Manu Gujungu explained that the LGA targets 50,311 eligible children in 11 political wards in the area.
According to him, “There are 58 teams of Ad-hoc staff and the exercise records tremendous achievements daily. We are exceeding our daily targets every day since the beginning of the exercise.”
“We managed to vaccinate more than 10,193 children on day 1, 10,382 on day 2 and around 11,000 on day 3, against our daily targets of 8,700 to 9,000.
“So far we have achieved more than 75 percent coverage for polio and other routine vaccines based on available data,” he said.
He further revealed that non-compliance had decreased significantly in the current round, with only one household recorded with resistance, already resolved with the support of traditional leaders.
Regarding cases of missing children, he said that in the first three days 420 were registered, of which 360 have been resolved, while the remaining 60 children traveled out of the city for a ceremony, “we have already made contacts and arrangements to attend to the remaining cases on the fourth day,” he said.
For his part, the Chairman of the Hadejia Local Government Council, Hon. Ahmed Abba Ari expressed satisfaction over the progress made, noting that more than 420 cases of non-compliance and absence of children registered in the first two days were successfully addressed on the third day.
Speaking shortly after the afternoon briefing on Day 3 at the Primary Healthcare Development (PHC) office, the Chairman said the council had provided all necessary logistics to ensure the success of the ongoing exercise.
He explained that, in addition to the agreed contribution of £3 million by each of the state’s 27 local government councils, Hadejia LGA also offered “additional support in cash and in kind”, which he described as a major factor behind the impressive results recorded so far.
Honorable. Ari reaffirmed the council’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery at the grassroots level, in line with Governor Malam Umar Namadi’s 12 Point Agenda, particularly the primary healthcare component.
He congratulated members of the Immunization Mobilization Committee and other LGA stakeholders for their tireless efforts, which have so far resulted in 75 per cent coverage.
