One night in Lagos, Nigerian music history came to life again.
Veteran singer and Galala pioneer Daddy Showkey turned his 50 years on stage into a celebration of not only his own career, but also the legends, sounds and memories that helped shape the country’s music industry.
The historic concert, titled “The Journey! My 50 Years on Stage as an Artist”, held last Sunday at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, brought together generations of Nigerian artists for a spectacular evening of music, nostalgia and celebration.
Instead of dedicating the occasion solely to himself, Daddy Showkey transformed the concert into a gathering of musical heavyweights, putting many familiar faces from Nigeria’s golden era and the new generations on the same stage.
Among those who joined him on stage were Tony Tetuila, 2Baba, 9ice, African China, Baba Fryo, Danfo Drivers, Marvelous Benjy, Korede Bello, Teni, Cobhams and others.
The result was a musical journey that reminded fans of the different eras that have contributed to the evolution of Nigerian popular music.

Daddy Showkey, whose career is closely associated with the rise of Galala and the cultural influence of Ajegunle, was at the center of it all.
