Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq will send a bill to the State House of Assembly next week asking lawmakers to immediately repeal the law granting pension packages to former governors and former deputy governors.
This is contained in a press release issued by the governor’s chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Friday.
According to the statement, “The Governor has heard the voices of the majority of the citizens who oppose the pension law for former governors and lieutenant governors.
In keeping with his campaign mantra and as a product of democracy himself, he will send a bill to the House of Assembly next week requesting that the law be repealed.
“As representatives of the people, legislators would exercise their discretion to convene a public hearing on the issue to garner more broader opinions on the issue.
“However, the governor believes it is time for the law to give way. I would prefer that the state commit scarce public funds to tackle the issue of poverty and youth unemployment. “
