Anambra state vice governor, Dr. Onyakachukwu Ibezim, has described the selfless service to humanity as the gift of Rotary International to society.
He said this while declared the 9142 district conference of Rotary International, labeled “Smithcity recharged 2025”, in Awka.
He praised the efforts and sacrifices of the rotarians, whom he described as a devout assembly of men and women who serve tirelessly and passionately to change lives.
“We praise your efforts and sacrifices to change people's lives, which you carry out tirelessly and passionately.
“We also recognize their positive interventions among communities, especially in the fight against polyomyelitis,” he added.
The governor of the 9142 District, Professor Au Nonyelu, reiterated the continuous commitment of the club to impact lives and mitigate the suffering of less privileged members of society.
He said that the conference was aimed at celebrating the activities of the club for the rotating year, particularly in their focus areas.
He listed some of his interventions, including maternal and child health, educational promotion, prevention and treatment of diseases, water sanitation and hygiene, and the consolidation of peace, among others.
“We are here to celebrate what we have done for the rotating year, the activities that we have carried out over the years in our different service areas, particularly in our focus areas.
“We will continue to impact different communities and mitigating the suffering of the less privileged members of society,” he added.
Previously, the president of the Conference Planning Committee, Paul Ileka, described the event as a service, companionship and community celebration.
He expressed optimism that the topic of the conference would cause stimulating discussions, inspiring presentations and opportunities for significant networks.
He said: “The issue of this year's conference,” to create a lasting change through Rotary's magic, “speaks directly about the importance of transforming current moments into society.
“We will get involved in stimulating discussions, inspiring presentations and opportunities for significant networks. Our conference theme will guide our conversations and reflections,” he emphasized.
Delivering a conference on infertility management, the acting vice chancellor of the immediate past of the NNAMDI Azikiwe University, Awka, professor Joseph Ikechebelu, explained that several methods could be used to overcome the challenge of the lack of children in families.
Speaking on the subject, “overcome the cross of infertility,” Ikechebelu specifically identified the trend of artificial reproduction technology/ in vitro fertilization (IVF) that had recorded success stories over the years.
Identify stress as one of the main factors responsible for the lack of children in homes, the medical expert urged couples without children to adopt new technology.
The event, which attracted the rotarians of seven states, ENUGU, Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Cross River and Akwa Ibom, presented other conferences by the Rotary Yinka Babalola, Professor Udenta Udenta, Professor Joshua Osa and Barrix Kingsley Awo.
