The primacy of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), most of the Reverend Henry Ndukuba, has urged President Bola Tinubu to intensify efforts to address the economic and security challenges of the country.
The first call was included in his presidential speech during the permanent committee of 2025 of the Church, held in the Church of the Cathedral of Emmanuel, Okesha, in the Diocese of Ekiti, Ekiti state, Wednesday.
The Permanent Committee represents the highest decision -making body of the Church, and this meeting had the issue, “the holiness of the Church: affirm the integrity of the Christian faith and the testimony in the world.”
In his speech, the primacy recognized the efforts of the administration of Tinubu so far, but emphasized the need for urgent action to face the nation’s challenges.
“The insurgency in the northeast and the bandit in other parts of the country has remained to interrupt economic activities, particularly in the agricultural and mining sectors, resulting in a decrease in productivity, loss of income and higher levels of poverty.
Addressing insecurity is crucial to revitalize economic growth and guarantee our survival as a nation, ”he said.
The majority of Reverend Simeon Borokini, archbishop of the province of Ondo and Bishop of Akure, emphasized the importance of Christians being true witnesses of the Gospel.
“We must reflect the beauty of Christ. An impious church makes fun of his name and moves people from truth. This means that repentance, discipleship, responsibility and restoration must be the distinctive stamps of our relationship with God and with each other,” he added.
The Right Reverend Andrew Ajayi, Bishop of the Diocese of Ekiti, approached the sacred role of the Church, stating: “The Church has been separated by the exclusive use of God. Therefore, it should not be entangled with worldly affairs because it is sanctified and belongs to God.
Speaking in the event, the governor of the state of Ekiti, Biodun Oyebanji, emphasized the importance of living positively and setting a good example.
“We are in the mission of God; we are all missionary. We are part of the Great Commission where we are.
“As Paul mentioned in one of his letters, we are the Scriptures that the world reads, so our lives should serve as a witness of others, embodying exemplary behavior in all situations, either as priests or laity,” he added.
