The president of the Grand Alliance of All Progressives (APGA) in Abia, the Rev. Augustine Ehiemere, says the party will no longer issue tickets to political party bettors.

Ehiemere gave the clue in an interview with the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) on Tuesday in Umuahia.

According to him, political office seekers who do not collect tickets at their original parties during the primaries will no longer take refuge in the APGA.

“That era ended at APGA. These party gamblers, who are going to APGA because they couldn’t get tickets to their original parties, will no longer be staying here.

“They have proven to be not very serious people in the party. They only become APGA when they lose tickets at other parties.

“And after competing on the APGA platform, they defect to their original matches,” Ehiemere said.

Therefore, he urged politicians interested in APGA to join now without further delay.

The party chairman described the party as the only credible platform that could save the state from decades of misrule and looting.

The party had assured in a statement issued Tuesday that it would provide a credible alternative for Abia’s electorate to choose candidates who will free the state from poverty and mismanagement.

The statement issued by the party at the end of its ‘Leadership and Strategy’ meeting in Umuahia, was titled: Abia APGA continues to grow strong, preparatory for the 2023 general elections.

He stated that the party’s determination and readiness to rescue the people of Abia from the chains of poverty, insecurity and economic strangulation was non-negotiable.

“Abia has suffered a serious economic setback, which has affected all facets of the economy, including civil servants, artisans, retirees and entrepreneurs.

“The people of Abia are tired of the bad government in the state and Nigeria in general,” the statement added.

The statement said that Ehiemere was said to have tasked the stakeholders in the meeting to remain determined and focused and to work assiduously to attract more members before the 2023 elections.

He pointed out that he also urged people to take advantage of the upcoming registration of new voters by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to arm themselves and be able to vote against the bad government.

The statement said the party used the meeting to draw up a roadmap on how to take control of Government House in 2023.

The meeting was attended by its 17 presidents of local government areas (LGA) and women leaders.

Speaking to reporters at the end of the meeting, Aba North LGA’s female party leader, Ms. Nene Michael, praised the Ehiemere-led executive for his focused and visionary leadership.

Additionally, Obingwa and Isiala Ngwa South LGA Presidents, Mr. Joshua Chidiebere and Chief Mike Eze, respectively, praised Ehiemere’s “excellent” leadership quality.

They all pledged to ensure the victory of the match in 2023. (NAN)
