Residents of Bauchi State have been advised to observe proper hygiene and avoid sharing personal items that may facilitate the transmission of the highly contagious eye infection commonly known as “Apollo”, which is currently spreading throughout the state.
The advice was given by the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Abubakar Y Suleiman, who is currently among those affected.
The spokesperson made the revelation in a post on his Facebook account seen on Monday, saying he woke up on Sunday with the infection out of the blue.
Therefore, the spokesperson urged residents to take precautions to prevent further spread of the infection.

He said: “By the grace of God, today I woke up with a highly contagious eye infection commonly known as ‘Apollo’, which is currently spreading across Bauchi State.”
The spokesperson, who expressed concern over the spread of the infection, urged residents to remain vigilant and maintain proper hygiene.
He said: “I urge everyone to be vigilant, maintain good hygiene and take appropriate preventative measures to help stop the further spread of infection within the community.”
Apollo, also known as conjunctivitis, is a contagious eye infection that can be transmitted through contact with infected people or contaminated surfaces and personal items.
All efforts to get an official reaction from the State Primary Health Care Board failed as the CEO, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, could not be reached. He did not pick up the phone or respond to messages sent to his phone number.
