Nollywood actress Simi Gold, who was convicted of Naira mutilation in February, has expressed solidarity with her friend, embattled crossdresser Bobrisky, whose sentencing has been postponed to a later date.

The Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday found Bobrisky guilty of Naira abuse and set 9 April as the sentencing date. He is currently in custody.

The similarities between Simi’s legal ordeal and Bobrisky’s current situation are striking. Both faced scrutiny over their interactions with the Naira, and their close friendship further strengthened the connection between their stories.

Unlike Bobrisky, who was accused of spraying wards of Naira at four different events, the actress was found guilty of selling the redesigned notes for profit and ‘stepping’ on them at a party in February 2023.

The 31-year-old cosmetologist was arrested after a video of her actions surfaced online and was subsequently handed over to the EFCC.

In February, she was sentenced to six months in jail for Naira mutilation before paying a N300,000 fine for her release.

Bobrisky, facing a four-count charge as a ‘first-time offender,’ appeared in court on Friday, where the money laundering allegations against him were struck out by Justice Abimbola Awogboro.

In response to these events, Simi showed her solidarity with Bobrisky on her Instagram page, assuring him of her support and sending him love.

However, beyond their friendship, both Simi and Bobrisky now face legal troubles with the EFCC.

Eniola Ajao Ajakaju producer also reached out to Bobrisky on Instagram, expressing sadness over the situation and acknowledging that Bobrisky has learned from his mistakes.

She pleaded with the EFCC to provide assistance and hinted at the release of the movie sequel.
