The main cause of yellow eyes is to have too chemical called ‘bilirubin’, a yellow substance that forms when red blood cells break down.
In other words, the whites of the eyes, ‘sclera’, become yellow when you have a health condition called ‘jaundice.‘
The blood bilirubin filter liver and makes it a fluid called ‘bile’ that reaches the digestive system and then comes out as waste from its body. But if your liver cannot get rid of it (bilirubin) in time, it will accumulate in your body and turn yellow eyes.
But there is more in jaundice than the previous explanation. More reasons why an adult can develop it are listed below.
1. Bile calculations
Biliary calculations are pieces of pebbles in their gallbladder, a small organ under its liver. They are the main cause of blocked bile ducts, which also leads to bilirubin to accumulate in its body. In addition, bile ducts are like drain pipes that transport liquid from the liver to the gallbladder, where it is stored.
2. Too much alcohol
Too much alcohol can cause yellow eyes. Drinking a lot for about 8 to 10 years can damage your liver or lead to inflammation that destroys liver cells. In this type of situation, it would be difficult for your liver to filter anything or work well.
3. Hepatitis
Hepatitis is caused by a virus that affects liver cells. It could be in the short or long term, when it lasts about six months. Hepatitis literally destroys the liver; Therefore, it cannot filter bilirubin, which is automatically in jaundice.
4. Falciform cell anemia
This is a common disease between Caribbean and Africans. The anemia of falciform cells causes the sticky red blood cells that die faster before the liver can filter them. Through this, bilirubin can accumulate, causing jaundice.
5. Incorrect blood transfusion
Another cause of yellow eyes is to put the wrong blood type in your body. For example, it has type A blood and obtains type B. Although its immune system could destroy incorrect blood cells, there is the possibility of bilirubin.
