A sitting magistrate court in Osogbo, Osun state admitted a leader of the #EndSARS movement in the state, Emmanuel Adebisi, arrested by the State Services Directorate, on Wednesday on bail.
Adebisi was indicted before the Court by the DSS on four charges bordering on forgery, identity theft, illegal possession of the Nigerian army uniform and, since December 14, 2020, he has been in preventive detention in the Custody Center of Ilesha.
The presiding magistrate, Mr. Isola Omisade, had rejected the defendant’s request for oral bail and had ordered his lawyer to formally request bail.
However, when the matter was called to a hearing on December 21, 2020, the attorney for the Ministry of Justice, Advocate Oyedele Akintayo, requested to formally take the matter from the DSS, a request that was granted by the Magistrate.
Meanwhile, the defendant’s attorney, Mr. Niyi Akinsola, filed a motion that the attorney for the State in the group objected to the formal bond request submitted to the effect that the bailiff had not served the request, urging the court to postpone the case so that it could respond to the request.
The prosecution attorney, Mr. Akintayo, and the defendant’s attorney, Mr. Akinsola, argued the formal bond request filed with the court on December 23, 2020, and the magistrate deferred the judgment on bond until Wednesday. December 30, 2020.
Omisade granted Adebisi a bond in the amount of one million naira and two bonds.
One of the guarantors, according to the Omisade, must be a 12th grade state official, while the other must be a homeowner in the state.
The magistrate ordered Adebisi to present his international passport and not grant interviews to journalists for any reason.
