The National Commission of Universities (NUC) ordered the vice-chancellors of universities to stop academic activities amid the increase in COVID-19 cases.

Chris Maiyaki, Deputy Executive Secretary (Administration) signed the circular.

Classrooms, hostel accommodation, conferences and seminars will be suspended.

Maiyaki ordered the universities to remain closed and await further instructions.

“The vice-chancellors must bear in mind that the directive is part of the measures approved by the president to mitigate the second wave of coronavirus infections in the country.

“The affected officers are expected to carry out their duties from home, while those from GL 13 and above must strictly adhere to existing preventive measures,” he said.

On December 22, the federal government ordered officials from GL 12 and under to stay home for five weeks.
