The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged murder of Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu, a popular critic of the government.
Recall that Danshagamu, a resident of Gaida Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area, was murdered in his home on September 8, 2026.
The Command spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said in a statement that on Monday, September 8, 2026, at about 11:30 pm, the Command received a distress report from the Commander of the Gaida Vigilance Group that unknown hoodlums had forcibly entered the residence of the deceased and attacked him with sharp objects.
Kiyawa said officers from the Kumbotso Police Division rushed to the scene, adding that the victim was immediately rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, for emergency medical care, where a doctor confirmed his death upon arrival.

He said: “Following the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the DPO, Kumbotso Police Division, in collaboration with officers from the Command’s tactical units and community stakeholders, carried out an intelligence-led operation which resulted in the arrest of two suspects linked to the incident.”
According to him, the suspects are currently detained and being interrogated, while efforts have been intensified to arrest other people who may be related to the crime.
He added that statements were being obtained and forensic procedures were being carried out to establish all the facts and motive for the attack.
CP Bakori expressed concern over the incident and expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“The Kano State Police Command will not relent in its mandate to protect lives and properties. We assure the good people of Kano that justice will be served to its logical conclusion,” the PC stated.
The Command thanked the Gaida Vigilante Group for the timely information that facilitated the rapid police response, noting that the development underlined the effectiveness of community policing and partnership in crime prevention.
Kiyawa urged the public to remain alert and continue to provide credible information to the police through the nearest police station or the Command’s emergency lines.
He explained that the investigation was ongoing and that the suspects would be charged to court once the investigation was concluded.
Meanwhile, additional patrols and intelligence gathering operations have been deployed in Gaida and surrounding areas to maintain public order and prevent any breach of peace.
