• Says Nigerian sportswriters are among the hardest working in the world

The Minister for Youth Development and Sport, Sunday Dare, yesterday congratulated sports journalists across the country and beyond as International Sports Journalists Day was celebrated around the world this year.

Dare, a journalist, said that the profession is a noble profession reserved for hardworking personalities, who work day and night, all year round, to give the sport the necessary reportage.

“This day deserves to be celebrated, as I am a sports journalist myself and I know the effort and passion you put into your work every day.

“Today I celebrate sports journalists, who have made immeasurable sacrifice for sports around the world, especially in Nigeria,” he said.

He added, “In Nigeria, they rank very high among professionals, who put so much passion into their work, no matter what they face.

“You have not paid attention to the dangers of the job, but have chosen to be partners in the development of the sport. This, in itself, calls for celebration and I join this celebration.”

The theme of the 2022 event: “Ensuring a sustainable and peaceful future for all”, has been celebrated by sports journalists, media organizations and related industries around the world since 1994.
