Nigerian comedian and reality TV star Aderombi Adedayo, popularly known as DeeOne, has said that fashion designer Ruth Erikan James, popularly known as Veekee James, was once his girlfriend, explaining that their relationship ended years ago due to personal differences.
DeeOne revealed this in a video shared on Instagram while responding to comments Veekee James made about him during a podcast interview with VJ Adams.
In the interview, Veekee James described DeeOne as someone who should not be taken seriously, a comment that sparked reactions online.
In response, DeeOne said the relationship happened shortly after he left Big Brother Naija in 2018, stressing that it has long since ended. He said there is no bad blood between them and urged fans not to take celebrities’ disagreements personally.
He explained that he values personal space in relationships and was uncomfortable with what he described as controlling behavior during their time together. Despite this, she said she has moved on and wishes Veekee James and her husband the best.

DeeOne said: “A lot of people don’t know this, when I came out of Big Brother Naija in 2018, Ruth and I had a thing. Right, honey, sweet, she’s good. That’s the truth of the matter. Personally, I don’t like people controlling me. For me, there’s no hard feelings and it’s not that I didn’t treat her well.
“Some people in the industry know what I’m saying. Even the husband, Mr. Femi James, knows it. Not only do I like it when people control me or send me too many messages. She started sewing like this and said: help me do this, please, can you buy me this? The delivery is outside. And I thought, what’s going on? I won’t be a boyfriend, I won’t be a house help.
“But to be honest, I wish them the best. I’m a fan of whatever they’re doing because I don’t hate them and I’ve moved on. So I don’t know where this comment is coming from, but if they bother you, maybe there’s something you feel like I’ve done and I don’t know, I’m sorry.”
“But from my side, it’s all love. My people, don’t take all of this personally. I get things for the entertainment industry that you don’t know about, and the reason I say this is because she’s the one speaking negatively about me.”
