The Delta state government on Sunday approved a site for the Labor Party (LP) Rally of the presidential campaign in Asaba.
State Information Commissioner Charles Aniagwu, who revealed this in a statement in Asaba, said the state government never denied the opposition party the venue for its campaign, contrary to suggestions.
According to Mr. Aniagwu, “(the) Labor Party never officially applied for any seat and was denied.
“A party representative only spoke to me (Aniagwu) on the phone on Sunday morning and demanded to use the Arcade in Asaba.
“The state government immediately, within three minutes, contacted the Oshimili South Local Government Council and obtained a waiver of all formalities and made the Arcade available to the Labor Party to hold their presidential rally.”

Mr. Aniagwu added that to demonstrate the Delta government’s democratic credentials and tolerance of the opposition, he graciously waived the amount to be paid for the venue.
He urged the party to carry out their demonstration peacefully in accordance with the established rules and regulations.
The Delta State Government is controlled by the Peoples’ Democratic Party.
