The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, on Wednesday revealed that the commission had created an advanced cyber crime research center to combat financial and cyber crimes.
He added that the center would focus on developing cutting-edge technologies for fraud detection and prevention, creating resources and promoting policy development and youth empowerment in digital literacy.
However, the president of the agency who made this known while speaking as a guest speaker at the 17th convocation conference of Redeemer University, Ede, Osun State, titled “Beyond Degrees: Cultivating Purpose, Resilience and Service in a Complex World”, cautioned the youth against taking shortcuts in their desperation to get rich quick.
Concerned about the negative deployment of energy and skills of the youths in criminality, especially online fraud known as yahoo-yahoo, the EFCC boss, noted that only those who are able to weather the storms of life, holding on to their dreams, overcoming obstacles and challenges, will leave their footprints on the sands of time and warned them against such act.
He then reiterated that Nigerian youths must be resilient, hold on to their dreams in life and desist from the pressure and desperation to get rich quick.

In his words of admonishment to the Redeemer University graduates, the EFCC President stressed to them the need to have a clear sense of direction, where they want to go, what they want to do and discipline to stay the course.
He said: “Under no circumstances should you give in to the pressure to get rich quick. Never allow peer pressure and desperation to belong to drive you into crime. If you do, you could gain temporary riches, which will ultimately lead to infamy, as wealth obtained through corrupt means never lasts.
“As you leave Redeemer’s University today, you must have a clear sense of direction, where you want to go, what you want to do and back it up with discipline to stay the course. This is what is called purpose. It is similar to a compass that directs your journey through life. Without a purpose, you are guaranteed a directionless existence”

“Many of those who today we classify as successful people in the country did not even study careers related to their current activity.
“As I understand it, tertiary education is essential, first and foremost, for personal and intellectual development. It equips people with critical thinking, communication and problem-solving skills.”
“Universities remain the conveyor belt for new entrants into professions such as medicine, engineering and law, all of which are critical to national development.”
However, he advised the youth that whatever goals they have set for themselves today, they must understand that it all depends on a number of social, economic and political factors.
Olukoyede, therefore, accused youths around the world of making personal integrity an article of faith, saying that the ingredients of integrity include honesty and truth, and that no matter how brilliant or talented one is, if he lacks these attributes, he is not likely to get very far.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor of Redeemer University, Prof. Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, commended the EFCC boss for his lecture which he said focused on humanity, stating that the convocation lecture is not only a prelude to our graduation ceremony, but is also a platform for deep reflection on the meaning of education and the kind of graduates that we ship to the world.
Akindele argued that “the presence of the EFCC Chairman reminds them that true education must empower people to serve their nation with honesty, courage and responsibility.”
