The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has intensified the battle of immigration asking for the imprisonment of the mayor of Chicago Brandon Johnson and the governor of Illinois JB Pritzker, accusing them of “not protecting federal immigration officers.”
Trump made these comments on his social platform of truth, stating: “The mayor of Chicago should be in jail for not protecting ice officers! Governor Pritzker too!”
This movement is part of the current dispute between the Trump administration and the Illinois authorities on the application of immigration.
The State and the city have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration plan to display the National Guard troops in the State, considering illegal, unconstitutional, dangerous and incorrect.
However, hundreds of Texas National Guard troops have been parked at a base of the Army Reserve outside of Chicago, despite the opposition of Governor Pritzker and Mayor Johnson.
“This is not the first time Trump tries to have a black man unjustly arrested. I will not go anywhere,” Johnson replied.
Pritzker, on his part, promised not to retreat in criticism of the intervention and deployment of Trump’s federal agents in the state.
“Trump is now asking for the arrest of elected representatives by reviewing his power. What else is on the way to the full -fledged authoritarianism?”
However, Trump has ordered ICE to perform aggressive raids in undocumented migrants in Chicago, that local leaders have promised to resist. The troops were deployed in Los Angeles and Washington DC to carry out the task and stop what the president has described as a crime “out of control”.
Governor Pritzker accused Trump of acting for a desire to punish his political enemies, while Mayor Johnson has expressed concern about the impact of deployment in the city. The same lawsuit was also filed by Washington DC attorney Brian Schwalb, challenging the deployment, saying: “It is not only unnecessary and unwanted, but is also dangerous and harmful to the district and its residents.”
According to the BBC, Trump ordered federal agents to go to Memphis and Portland, but a judge has blocked his deployment in Portland while allowing him to proceed in Chicago for now. The state of Illinois and the city of Chicago have filed a lawsuit to stop the deployment, with an audience scheduled for Thursday.
Trump warned that he will invoke the law of insurrection and display the military if the courts or local officials obstruct their efforts, citing concerns about the application of crime and immigration.

“If I had to promulgate it, I would do it, if the people were killed and the courts were retaining us, or the governors or mayors were retaining us,” Trump said Monday.
In addition, the White House officials, including the deputy director of Cabinet Stephen Miller, have criticized judicial efforts to block the deployment, with Miller accusing the courts of “an insurrection against the laws and constitution of the United States.”
Meanwhile, the protests in Chicago became violent over the weekend, with the immigration authorities claiming that they shot a woman who allegedly rammed her car in police vehicles. The woman’s lawyer disputes the government account. Today, President Trump will organize a round table on addressing Antifa, a loose coalition of extreme left activists.
