Nollywood's actress and filmmaker, Iyabo Eye, has broken her silence after an invitation from the Commission of Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC) regarding the spray of money during her daughter's recent wedding.
In a shared statement through his Instagram page, Eye confirmed that he honored the EFCC invitation and visited his Lagos office on May 5, 2025, shortly after returning from the United Kingdom.
Its publication occurs after broad public speculation and concern for its alleged interrogation by the Anti-Injoice Agency.
Eye explained that he decided to make the incident public due to the volume of calls and messages he received from fans and associates that sought clarifications and updates about their well -being.
During his visit, she said she was interviewed about her background, her career, business and, more specifically, the activities at her daughter's wedding ceremony.
According to Eye, he was surprised when officials informed him that spraying money, either Naira or foreign currency as dollars, is considered a crime under Nigerian law.
“The EFCC officials showed me videos extracted from my daughter's wedding, where the guests, including colleagues and friends, were spraying Naira and foreign coins.
“They asked me if I knew this was illegal, and I explained that I thought that only the abuse or mutilation of Naira was a crime.
“EFCC officials clarified that it is forbidden to spray money, even in the bodies of people, I was surprised to know that spraying any currency, including dollars, is not allowed either.” After questioning, they allowed me to leave the same day, but my personal lawyer, Oi Salami, defended me as they called me again.
“Given this experience, I advise not to spray any currency in Nigeria to avoid problems with the EFCC.
“Perhaps it is time to reconsider this tradition of long data. We prioritize caution and avoid any potential problem. Thank you, Alice Iyabo Eye.”
In recent times, the EFCC has intensified efforts to suppress Naira abuse and spraying money, especially in social meetings, following the widest campaign of the Central Bank of Nigeria to preserve the integrity of the national currency.
