The 18 winners and two ministries, departments and agencies (MDA) were recognized on Saturday night at the Ceremony of Recognition and Recognition of the Federal Civil Service of 2025, held at the Banquet Hall of Banquet State House, Abuja. The two ministries were recognized for their efforts in excellence in the public sector.
Previously in his comments, the head of the Federation Civil Service, Mrs. Didi Walsson-Jack, said the meeting was to honor the “unrecognized heroes who give life to the public service.”
He pointed out that the awards night is the grand final of a historic week of civil service, saying only a few days ago: “We organized the Maiden International Service Conference (ICSC) here in Abuja, with delegates from around the world. Hashtags.
Walson-Jack described the recipients as “silent reformers” whose dedication, discipline and consistency embody the spirit of the true public service.
“They appear on time, they fulfill the deadlines, write policies, fix systems and still manage to maintain a smile,” he said. “Tonight, we stop to recognize the hustle and say: we see you. We thank you. We honor you.”
He also noted that the award ceremony has become a permanent characteristic in the calendar of the civil service, providing a platform to highlight the often invisible efforts of the diligent public servants.
The event followed the successful conclusion of the Maiden International Service Civil Conference (ICSC), which brought together more than 5,000 delegates in Eagles Square, Abuja, for a two -day exchange on innovation and best practices in governance.
The Head of Service praised the unwavering support of President Bola Tinubu to the reforms of the civil service, noting that his renewed agenda of hope is not only a slogan but a commitment to dignity, equity, innovation and reward.

She argued that the presence of President Tinubu at the International Civil Service Conference, where she declared that the open event was a powerful demonstration of her dedication to civil service and transformation agenda.
“From the new minimum wage to pension reforms, the president has made it clear: our public officials are important,” said Walson-Jack, while highlighting the progress made in digitalization, the evaluation of improvement and improved well-being, thanks to the president's support.
He also used the occasion to reiterate the importance of punctuality, describing it as a critical element of civil service reform.
“To resume work at 8 am is not just a rule; it is a culture that we must claim,” he said. “When we arrive on time, we demonstrate respect, for the system, for our colleagues and for the citizens we serve.”
While celebrating the honors, he encouraged other public officials not to be discouraged if they were not recognized this year.
“Recognition can take time, but it will come. Do your job so well that it cannot be ignored,” he advised.
Walson-Jack, however, expressed concern about the failure of some MDA to present nominations or, in some cases, nominate people who did not meet the required standards. She urged MDA to address future editions with greater seriousness.
Among the main winners, Dr. Bahijjatu Hadiza, from the Federal Ministry of Environment, received the Star Presidential Prize, which included a SUV, laptop, plaque, prize certificate, a short course and a master class opportunity.
Chukwudi Ekwenugo, from the Federal Ministry of Marina and Azul, also received a SUV award, N500,000 in cash, a laptop and similar training opportunities.
Other recipients received laptops, cash awards ranging from N250,000 to N500,000, housing benefits and professional development packages.
Secretary of the Federation Government, Senator George Akume, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the event, praised the resilience and commitment of Nigeria's public officials, describing them as the “backbone of governance and national development.”
He reaffirmed the administration's commitment to create a public service environment rooted in merit, innovation and responsibility.
