The federal government has declared that repositioning the Nigerian capital market is not simply an economic aspiration but a national imperative.
He stressed that this effort is about creating opportunities, promoting the creation of wealth and building a more prosperous future for all Nigerians. The Judicial Power, through its commitment to the resolution of effective and impartial disputes, has a vital key to unlock this potential.
This commitment was expressed by Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday in a judges workshop organized by the Bag and Securities Commission (SEC) in Abuja. The event had the subject: “Reposition the Nigerian capital market for national economic transformation through an effective dispute resolution.”
The vice president, who was represented by Dr. Tope Fasua, said that the workshop issue was not only a topic of discussion, but a call of clarification and a strategic imperative that is closely aligned with the economic agenda of the current administration.
He added that it emphasizes the undeniable truth that a robust, efficient and reliable capital market forms the rock bed on which a sustainable national economic transformation can be built.
Shettima declared: “The capital market is much more than a platform to buy and sell values. It is the soul of modern economies: a sophisticated ecosystem that mobilizes capital in the long term for productive investments. The dreams of entrepreneurs can take the flight.”

The vice president reiterated that in Nigeria, a nation full of potential and a youthful and dynamic population, the capital market has an even greater importance. He described it as a critical tool to diversify the economy far from the excessive dependence of a single product, promote indigenous industrialization and attract national and foreign direct investments.
A capital market that works well, he said, can unlock latent wealth, deepen financial inclusion and, ultimately, improve the living standards of our citizens. It is the duct through which national savings are channeled to productive companies, promoting the wheels of progress and prosperity.
Shettima also emphasized that given the vast national aspirations of Nigeria, including the massive development of infrastructure, a prosperous digital economy, a revitalized agricultural sector and a diversified industrial base, none of them can be achieved without a substantial capital and long term.
He pointed out that although the banking sector is vital, it mainly provides short -term financing. In contrast, the capital market, with its capital capacity and long -term debt instruments, offers the capital of the patient required for transformative projects. He stressed that it serves as a platform for public-private associations, titling future income and allowing common Nigerians to participate in the history of growth of the nation.
He assured that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is totally committed to strengthening the Nigerian capital market and improving the efficiency of the justice delivery system.
“We recognize that a strong judiciary is essential for a prosperous economy and a stable democracy. We are dedicated to support initiatives that promote judicial independence, improve judicial capacity and improve access to justice for all citizens,” said Shettima.
In his welcome comments, the general director of the Bag and Securities Commission (SEC), Dr. Emomotimi Agama, said that the knowledge exchange workshop on the capital market law, ethics and judicial interpretations, with a special approach to the Law of Investments and Securities (ISA) 2025, would help to shape the integrity and efficiency of the capital market of Nigeria.
He pointed out that the role of judges in the interpretation and application of financial laws is essential for investor confidence, economic growth and national prosperity. He also praised the legislative and executive weapons of the Government for successful approval and the signing of the Law of the Investment and Securities Law, 2025.
“This historical legislation marks a significant milestone in the economic and financial sector of Nigeria. It reinforces the confidence of investors, strengthens regulatory frameworks and improves the position of the nation in global markets.
