The former Russian transport minister, Roman Staritit, was discovered dead, according to the reports, from a self -inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Russian Research Committee.
He was fired earlier Monday by President Vladimir Putin.
Starvoit was fired without explanation, and Andrei Nikitin, Deputy Minister of Transportation, was soon appointed his successor.
The Investigation Committee declared that he was investigating the circumstances of the incident.
Starvoit was appointed Russian transport minister in May 2024.
Before that, Starvoit had served as governor of the Kursk region for almost six years, until May 2024.
The region was partly seized by Ukrainian troops in August 2024 in a surprise offensive. Moscow recently managed to expel Ukrainian forces, although at the end of June kyiv said he still had a small area of ​​territory within Russia.
Starvoit's successor, Aleksey Smirnov, was only in the post for a short time. He was arrested in April and was then accused of embezzlement that had been assigned for the construction of fortifications at the border with Ukraine.
According to the reports, Staritit was about to be submitted as accused in the same case.
It is not clear when, exactly, Staritit died.
The head of the Duma State Defense Committee, Andrei Kartapolov, said RTVI's departure that his death occurred “a long time ago.”
Earlier on Monday, before Starvoit's death was announced, journalists pressed whether the dismissal meant that Putin had lost starvoit confidence about Kursk events.
