In an important step towards the promotion of youth empowerment and economic sustainability, the Executive Director of Technical Services of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), the engineer Umar Abdullahi Umar, has distributed 160 units of solar housing systems to small-scale commercial operators throughout the federal constituence of Dawakin-Tofa/Tofa/Rimin-Gado in the state of Kano.
The head secretary of the National President of APC, Edwin Olofu, revealed this in a statement issued in Abuja.
According to Olofu, the beneficiaries, who are all members of the Congress of all progressives (APC), include POS operators, telephone cargo service providers, barbers, tailors and other entrepreneurs extracted from 38 rooms within the constituency.
The empowerment program, which took place during the weekend, was described as a critical intervention to help young entrepreneurs reduce operating costs and increase income, especially in the middle of the growing energy challenges.
Speaking during the event, Eng. Umar, son of the former governor of the state of Kano and current national president of APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, declared that his focus on small and medium enterprises (SME) is aligned with the renewed agenda of hope of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This initiative aims to promote youth self -sufficiency and economic development. By supporting SMEs, we are building the bases for long -term prosperity and poverty reduction,” Said Umar.
He added that solar energy offers a profitable fuel alternative, which allows small businesses to operate more efficiently.
“We identify your businesses and choose to support it because SMEs are the basis of any prosperous economy, even in developed nations,” he added. “We will continue to support the vision of President Tinubu to transform Nigeria through base empowerment.”
In his comments, the managing director of the PER, the engineer Abba Abubakar Aliyu, applauded the unwavering commitment of the engineer Umar to address the challenges of power in Kano. He pointed out that Umar has successfully facilitated the installation of 1 megavatio of solar energy in the main institutions, including the University of Bayero Kano (BUK), the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), the University of Science and Technology of Dangote, and Kano Polytechnic.
