The Ghana Drunkards Association has issued a three -week ultimatum to the government to reduce alcoholic beverages or face a massive protest at the national level of its 16.65 million reported members.
In a video posted on X on Sunday, a man identified as Moses Obuah, who believes he is the leader or spokesman of the association, said that the government must act quickly in response to the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian CEDI, which according to him should have led to a reduction in alcohol prices.
“To date, the prices of alcoholic beverages continue to rise. If you buy alcohol, there is an increase of approximately 15%, and this affects suppliers.
“We have learned that CEDI has gained some strength and the price of some articles has been reduced. However, the cost of alcohol remains high,” says the association's representative.
In addition, he appealed directly to the authorities, saying: “Therefore, we are asking President John Dramani Mahama and his Minister of Commerce and Industry to do something about prices.

“We have given them a three -week grace period to meet with us so that we can deliberate on how to reduce alcohol prices. We are not making this call only for alcoholic beverages but also for non -alcoholic.”
The warning follows a remarkable rebound of CEDI Ghanaés in 2025, which has appreciated almost 50 percent against the US dollar, which makes it the best performance coin worldwide so far this year.
Bloomberg's data show that CEDI opened the year approximately ₵ 15 per dollar and now quotes about ₵ 10.
The drunk group argued that this monetary strength should translate lower prices for imported goods, including alcohol, something that they say has not happened.
