The Gombe Police command arrested a 35 -year -old man, Usman Kawu, for alleged criminal conspiracy and possession of counterfeit foreign currency.
According to DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the Police Public Relations officer, Kawu was arrested on June 28, 2025, at approximately 2:04 pm

Kawu was found in possession of alleged false currency of the United States for a total of $ 1,000, composed of ten invoices of $ 100, equivalent to approximately ₦ 1.5 million in Nigeriana Naira.
In addition, ₦ 10,000 in Nigerian currency recovered from it, hidden inside their internal shorts.
“The suspect confessed to being aware of the false currency and claimed that it was delivered by an accomplice whose identity is being retained for operational reasons,” said Abdullahi.
Efforts are currently being made to stop said accomplice and discover more evidence linked to the operation.
The police command reaffirmed its commitment to address economic crimes throughout the State and warned of any attempt to undermine public trust through financial fraud.
“We are still attentive to safeguarding the financial integrity of our communities and we will continue acting quickly against all forms of economic sabotage,” the statement added.
