A magistrates court in Birnin Kebbi ordered the preventive detention of two suspects accused of violating and impregnating the minor girls in the cities of Gwandu and Ambursa.
The president magistrate, Atiku Abubakar, issued the return order after hearing the charges against the defendants, who declared themselves innocent.
The case has revived the calls for the federal government to accelerate minor cases and defrost overpopulated prisons.
The prosecutor, Inspector Muhammad Kamba told the court that the first defendant, Faruq Malami (aka Maibudare), a resident of the Dalijan village in Gwandu Lga, allegedly violated a 14 -year -old girl, Fatima Abubakar, four months ago. According to the reports, the defendant threatened to kill her if she revealed the assault and confiscated her phone. The victim now has four months pregnant.
The charges against Malami include violation, criminal intimidation and assault under sections 241, 259, 378 and 138 of the Kebbi State Criminal Code.
In a separate case, the second defendant, Aminu Abubakar, by Sabon Birnin, Ambursa, was accused of raping an eight -year -old girl, Aminat Abubakar, on June 28. The prosecutor declared that the suspect dragged the victim to a building without completing, sexually assaulted already assault on its private parts.
Abubakar faces contamination charges, severe indecency, criminal intimidation and causes damage under under sections 261, 241, 222 and 210 of the Kebbi State Criminal Code.
When the charges were read in court, both defendants declared themselves innocent of the accusations.
During the procedures, the police prosecutor informed the court that the magistrate lacked jurisdiction to listen to the cases and requested a postponement until July 16. He explained that the police were still terminating their investigation and expected directives from the Ministry of Justice for adequate accusation before a competent court.
The prosecutor also urged the court to refer to the defendants in prison custody waiting for the postponed date.
In his ruling, Judge Abubakar granted the request of the Prosecutor's Office, ordering the defendants to be arrested until July 16, when the matter will be reviewed based on the legal advice of the Ministry.
