A member of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon Tolu Bankole, has commended the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for the significant successes recorded by his administration in the last six years.
Bankole, a former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, speaking to the media in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, described Abiodun as having the best governor the state has ever produced in contemporary times.
He revealed that the State under Abiodun has been transformed in all important sectors, which he attributed to the exceptional and quality leadership provided by the helmsman of the State.
Bankole said Abiodun had elevated the state to a new height through visionary policy formulation, fiscal discipline and a calm and inclusive leadership style that has entrenched peace and stability.
He noted that the state’s internally generated revenue has grown remarkably under Abiodun’s administration. Ogun’s IGR, which stood at around £70 billion in 2019 and decreased to £50.6 billion in 2020, increased to £100.7 billion in 2021.
“By 2023, the state recorded £146 billion, demonstrating unprecedented fiscal expansion and robust revenue reforms. This performance far exceeds the pre-Abiodun years when the state struggled with lower and inconsistent revenue streams,” the former lawmaker said.
He added that Ogun has also recorded GDP growth of more than 150 per cent, rising from £2.9 trillion in 2021 to £7.3 trillion in 2024, reflecting targeted industrial policies and the governor’s commitment to economic diversification.
Bankole emphasized that the Abiodun administration has deliberately positioned Ogun as the industrial heartland of Nigeria, while highlighting infrastructure as one of the governor’s greatest achievements.
The APC NWC member said more than 600 kilometers of roads have been built or rehabilitated to facilitate movement, boost trade and support industrial expansion. Highways such as Denro–Ishashi–Akute and various township networks have restored mobility in communities that were previously isolated by neglected infrastructure.
The administration has provided affordable housing through site and amenity plans and new properties that house civil servants and retirees, offering dignity and stability to residents.
Bankole stated that Governor Abiodun has set a new benchmark of governance in Ogun State through prudent resource management, strategic partnerships and long-term planning focused on the welfare of citizens.
“Prince Dapo Abiodun is undoubtedly the best governor Ogun State has ever had and his legacy will serve as a benchmark for good governance, transformational leadership and inclusive development.
“I, therefore, appeal to the political class, citizens and residents of Ogun State to continue supporting the iconic Prince in 2026 and beyond,” Bankole added.
