The popular Nigerian content creator, Kuye Oghenevwede Adegoke, popularly known as Egungun de Lagos, has agreed online controversy after revealing in a birthday tax that almost presented his wife to his now wife a richer friend a decade ago.
In a publication on social networks shared on July 2 to mark his wife's birthday, Egungun told the first days of his relationship.
He revealed that, while both were students from Yaba College of Technology, a rich friend had asked him to find a Yabatech woman, and he had considered presenting her.
“10 years ago, I wanted to link to my friend who has more money than me because he asked me to find a girl for him from Yabatech,” he wrote.
“Honestly, it was nonsense, I didn't realize that I would end up getting marrying you. This guy literally wanted to give me 3,000 naira to take you home in Ajah. Happy birthday, my love! Help me wish me a happy birthday; he really deserves it.”
While the publication was probably intended to be humorous and reflective, it quickly attracted a violent online reaction.
Several users criticized Egungun for publicly sharing details that many considered unpleasantly and potentially shameful for their wife, the mother of their children.
A user commented: “Are we supposed to” Awwwwwn “in the title of Egungun for his wife? Ewww.” Another wrote: “To say that the mother of her own children questions the type of husband who is.”
Some defended him, pointing out his comic brand and personality, but others questioned whether such personal anecdotes should be made public, especially in a day destined to celebrate his wife.
