Former Vice President Abubakar Atiku has re-drilled the recent oil deregulation that has led to a increase in fuel price, asking “If we really deregulate, shouldn’t the price of fuel go down?”

Atiku, in rhetoric on his verified Twitter account Tuesday morning, tweeted that as a businessman he is more concerned about the economic outlook of things.

He noted that in the United States and Europe, fuel prices are much lower than in 2019.

Then he asked bluntly: “If we really deregulated, shouldn’t the price of fuel have dropped?”

Atiku had rejected, four days ago, the increase in the electricity tariff and described the measure as “untimely and inadvisable”.

He also described the move as an “impetuous disregard for challenges.

“I reject the increase in electricity rates. Coming out of lockdown, Nigerians need encouragement, not brash disregard for the challenges they face.

“Many Nigerians have been without an income for months, through no fault of their own. This increase is inopportune and inadvisable, ”he said.

However, Nigerians have been reacting to the evolution of the increase in gasoline and electricity tariffs, expressing their disgust at the economic situation of the average Nigerian.
