Veteran Nigerian musician Innocent Onyebuchi, popularly known as Daddy Fresh, has revealed the extent of his health problems, saying he sold everything he owned while battling a prolonged illness.
In a video shared by Nollywood actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod on Wednesday, the once vibrant singer is seen in a hospital bed, looking frail and weak. Afod, who visited him in the hospital, posted the video on his Facebook page with the caption: “Daddy Fresh must not die, one of Nigeria’s greatest artistes is in a terrible condition.”
Wearing a blue sleeveless blouse, Daddy Fresh seemed surprised when Afod entered. “Oba,” he said weakly. “It’s Afod, Kunle Afod,” the actor replied.
Incredulous, the musician asked: “It’s not a lie, how do you know how to say that I’m here? You’re the last person I can think of. I was wondering if I was hallucinating again. Before, there were times when I was looking for you but I didn’t know how to find you. Afod, abi na, did God send you to come?”
Speaking about his health, Daddy Fresh explained that he was bedridden for over two years and that the illness had taken everything from him.
“I started to hallucinate, to see people, those I know and those I don’t. I talk to them directly, but the others don’t see them. This one does too much.
“My kidney, my liver, neuropathy. Eyes, two of them have problems, I operated on this one, and they don’t see again. They don’t see you.
“Now I need a blood transfusion. I need to buy a few pints of blood. They said they need it immediately, like two or three packets of blood because my blood is very low, 25%.
“If I stay here now, I’m going to fall, unless someone holds me up. See my face, my knees, the wounds from the fall, like a child learning to walk,” he said.
Additionally, he revealed that he was facing possible eviction from his apartment for non-payment of rent.
“Madam? Ma’am ke? They don’t waka su waka o. I have a few days in my house because of the rent. I have to move to where I don’t know. They don’t tell me to quit. Shebi na, who is fine, will know where he is going to sell one or two things to use the payment, but I don’t know, but I want to keep an eye on the sale, even if it is my TV,” he said.
Daddy Fresh also hinted that his health problems might not be normal. “They just want to commit suicide, not me. The enemies are waiting to find out to what extent. While I haven’t yelled at the public, they are confused, wondering if what they did didn’t work.”
Despite his condition, he said Afod’s visit gave him hope. “For me, seeing people I didn’t expect to see like you, that doesn’t happen.”

Afod, who gave him some money and promised to return, appealed to Nigerians and the entertainment industry to support the veteran singer.
“This is Daddy Fresh. If you know him. You’ll know what I’m talking about. Very handsome. Beautiful voice. This man was a fantastic musical artist. He’s been sick for over three years. I just found out and decided to go see him in the hospital.
“He said a lot of things and I was suspicious of different types of people and areas where the disease could have broken out, but I just pray that he recovers and gets better soon. He is not someone we should forget.
“I am here to request and beg the world, beg Nigeria as a whole and the entertainment industry as a whole. Daddy Fresh is not a name that we can say we cannot remember in the entertainment industry in Nigeria.
“We need your support. Nigerians, we need your support. Artistes, the music industry, I am calling you out. Please. Let’s keep him alive. I met him in a very, very bad state,” Afod urged.
