The Kebbi State Government has deposed three district heads in three local government areas in the Gwandu Emirate for gross misconduct, insubordination, fraud, partisanship or abandoning their positions without permission.

Announcing the dismissal in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, state Local Government Service Commission chairman Mansur Shehu told reporters that the action was in line with the state’s Public Service Standards (PSR).

Those deposed are Lawal Yakubu, who was Mai Arewan Yeldu in Arewa Local Government Area; Ahmed Sani, who was Sarkin Gabas Geza in Dandi Local Government Area and Tukur Aliyu, Jagwadejin Bakuwe in Suru Local Government Area.

Shehu said the dismissal of the district heads became imperative after his commission investigated charges leveled against them by their local government councils.

“The commission is responsible for disciplining local government employees from level 07 onwards (including district heads) in accordance with the provisions of the Kebbi State Local Government Act (2008).

“Upon receiving the charges, the commission suspended the district heads and set up committees to investigate the allegations,” Shehu said.

He explained that the committees visited and interacted with council managements and district heads before declaring the latter guilty of the charges.

“These district heads were charged with insubordination, gross misconduct, fraud, partisanship and abandoning their positions without permission.

“In order to establish compelling and verifiable reasons and evidence presented by the committees, the commission referred the matter to the Attorney General and the Commissioner of Justice for legal opinion and advice,” it said.

He explained that the attorney general made his observation on each of the three officially known cases, which led to further investigation and the discovery of additional evidence.

Shehu said after due investigations and consultations, the commission found the district heads guilty of misconduct and subject to dismissal from the local government service.
