Kidnapped actors regain freedom – Gremio

The Screen Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, has announced the release of kidnapped actors Cynthia Okereke and Clemson Cornel Agbogidi.

It is not clear if a ransom was paid, but a statement from the Guild, signed by its Director of Communications, Monalisa Chinda Coker, states that the actors were released unharmed.

“The elated National President of the Screen Actors Guild of Nigeria, Ejezie Emeka Rollas, announced their release from the kidnappers who were touched by the spirit of God to set them free and unharmed,” the statement read.

Ms. Coker also points out that the Guild has organized medical check-ups and psychological support for the victims.

“On behalf of their families, the National President expressed our sincere thanks to the Nollywood industry and Nigerians in general for the support and prayers during the trial period.

“He urged the members to be mindful of safety on and off film sets and to always take precautionary measures at all times,” it adds.

Search efforts, petition

Following the unfortunate incident, Ms. Coker called on Nigerians to step up the search for the actors by re-posting valuable information.

On her Instagram page, the actress noted that the kidnappers’ lawsuit is outrageous, given that actors don’t earn much in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the famous actress Kate Henshaw started a petition.

The petition challenged the Federal Government of Nigeria not only to secure the release of the kidnapped actors, but also to end insecurity throughout the country.

The actors were reported missing on Thursday.

This was after their relatives confirmed that they did not return home from a filming location in Ozalla Town, Enugu State.

By Saturday, their kidnappers had contacted their families, demanding $100,000 in ransom.

In a video clip on social media, Rollas said that while both actors are still being held captive by their kidnappers, the Guild is doing everything it can to secure their release.

Mr. Rollas announced that the Guild was working closely with the victims’ families and security forces to ensure their safe release.
