Former Kwara State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Mopelola Abdulmalik Bashir, has said women in the state are intensifying their efforts to secure the six seats of the Federal House of Representatives under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking with journalists about the advances of women in politics and their plans for the next electoral cycle, the Hon. Bashir said the goal is to build on the remarkable progress women have made under Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s administration by moving from representation at the state level to a significant presence in the federal legislature.

“Kwara women do not rest on the progress already achieved. We move towards 2027 to consolidate ourselves by pushing for the six seats of the Federal House of Representatives in the National Assembly,” she said.

Honorable. Mopelola Abdulmalik Bashir also stated that the target of six seats in the Federal House of Representatives adds to efforts to increase the presence of women in the Kwara State House of Assembly from the current six to at least ten members in the 24-member House by 2027.

“The record set by His Excellency Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in 2019 with 50 percent women in the cabinet, and in 2023 with the highest number of women in the State Assembly, will be consolidated in 2027 with six women in the Federal House of Representatives,” he added.

He expressed confidence that Kwara women possess the capacity, competence and organizational strength to achieve the goal, noting that they are mobilizing, lobbying and building alliances within the ruling party to make it a reality.

“We believe that women have everything it takes and we are doing everything necessary to achieve this goal,” she said.
