The Cross River State Chapter of the Labor Party (LP) has set up a reconciliation and discipline committee to resolve internal conflicts within its ranks in the state.

This was revealed in a statement from LP state chairman Ogar Osim on Wednesday in Calabar.

It should be recalled that prior to the March 18 gubernatorial election in Cross River, some dissatisfied party loyalists had endorsed the state’s Popular Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Sandy Onor.

This was despite the fact that the party had its gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Osim, who is also the state party chairman.

Mr Osim said the idea of setting up the committee was in line with LP national chairman Julius Abure’s directive that all issues affecting the party in Cross River should be resolved peacefully.

“It has become demanding to set up a reconciliation and discipline committee to mediate and reconcile all parties involved.

“The mandate of this committee takes immediate effect as the need to restore peace and unity in our party cannot be delayed any longer,” he said.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 13-member committee has Alvin Ochang as chairman, with representatives of the Nigerian Labor Congress and the Trades Union Congress as members.
