Mexico has filed a demand against Google for using the “Gulf of America” label on the maps, a change made by the president of the United States, Donald Trump, through an executive order.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed legal action during her daily press conference on Friday.
She did not provide specific details, but simply said “Google had been sued.”
Mexico's Foreign Ministry had sent Google letters asking him not to change the name of Mexican territorial waters such as the “Gulf of America.”
From now on, Google has not responded to requests for media comments.
The Gulf in question is bordered by Mexico and the United States.

Trump's executive order is applied only within the US jurisdiction. Other countries and international organizations are not obliged to recognize the change of name.
Mexico argues that the “Gulf of America” should only be applied to the portion of water on the United States continental platform.
In February, Sheinbaum shared a letter from Cris Turner, vice president of Government and Public Policies of Google.
In it, Turner declared that Google would not change its existing map policies after Trump's statement.
He explained that Google is following “long -standing maps policies impartially and consisting in all regions.”
Currently, Google Maps shows the body of water as “Gulf of America” in the United States, “Gulf of Mexico” in Mexico and “Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)” in other places.
The Gulf of Mexico has taken that name for more than 400 years.
Associated Press continues to use the original name, but recognizes the label introduced by Trump.
In a related matter, the White House prohibited the AP from being part of the small press pool that covered Trump in the Oval office and Air Force One's board.
His access was also limited for events in the east room.
In response, the AP sued three Trump administration officials, citing freedom of expression.
They asked a federal judge to raise the restrictions and restore their access.
Last month, a judge failed in favor of the AP.
The court ordered the White House to completely restore the access of the news agency, saying that “the government cannot punish the organization of news for the content of its speech.”
This emergency failure remains in force while the case continues.
