Microsoft has finished the specific cloud services provided to the Israeli Ministry of Defense after an internal investigation linked its technology with the massive surveillance of the Palestinians.
The company president Brad Smith announced in a statement in the Microsoft blog that the technological giant had “ceased and disabled a set of services” used by the Israel Military Intelligence Unit, 8200.
The measure followed a joint investigation conducted by The Guardian and Israeli Publication +972 Magazine, which revealed that the 8200 unit was based on Microsoft Azure to store millions of telephone calls made by Palestinians in Gaza and the Western West Bank occupied.

Microsoft, who began a review of claims on August 15, said it does not provide technology “to facilitate the mass surveillance of civilians” in any country.
The review, which examined financial and commercial records, confirmed that Israel had consumed the storage capacity of Azure in the Netherlands and used Microsoft’s services.
As a result, Microsoft has cut access to affected cloud storage and AI technologies.
However, an Israeli security official said the decision does not affect the “operational capacities of the IDF”.
