The US army is establishing two new border areas along the southern border with Mexico.
The announcement occurred on Wednesday as part of the president of the United States, Donald Trump's continuous effort to take energetic measures against illegal immigration using military authority.
The recently created “National Defense Areas” will allow US troops to temporarily stop migrants and intruders. The areas provide an alternative to invoke the insurrection law of 1807, which is generally used for domestic disturbances.
An American official said that while there are already two of those areas, only four people have been arrested for those reasons so far.
One of the new areas will cover approximately 250 miles from the RÃo Grande River in Texas. It will be managed under the joint base of San Antonio, according to the United States Air Force.
The second area will be based near Yuma, Arizona, and will be supervised by the air station of the Yuma Marines.
These areas are intended to grant limited military police along the border, without triggering broader legal concerns linked to complete military deployments in the US soil.
But the results have mixed. Judges in Texas and New Mexico have dismissed transfer charges against many migrants. The courts ruled that they did not know that they were in restricted military areas.
Even so, some 120 migrants declared themselves guilty of raid in the first Texas area in May. In New Mexico, two sentences were secured on June 18, according to the offices of US prosecutors.
From now on, approximately 11,900 American troops are deployed along the border with Mexico.

The Trump administration says that these actions have led to a great fall in border crossings.
Illegal tickets reached minimal record in March. Officials accredit this to Trump's military accumulation, the previous closure of the Biden era of asylum claims in 2024 and the most strict immigration application by Mexico.
