The Kogi state government has revealed that 220,495 citizens are registered under their health insurance plan, a historical achievement aimed at making medical care more accessible and affordable throughout the state.
This was revealed in a statement issued Wednesday by the Kogi state commissioner for information and communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, who said that the scheme, promoted by the Kogi State Health Agency (Kgshia) under the leadership of Dr. Kunle nearby, reflects the unwavering commitment of the Ododo Administration with the health and well -being of people.
According to Fanwo, the Administration has expanded the borders of the Health Insurance initiative by registering not only the members of the public but also the officials and their dependents, thus reducing the financial burden of medical care in families.
“Kogi currently occupies the 14th position throughout the country in terms of the number of people registered in a health insurance plan administered by the State,” he said, added that the government is intensifying awareness campaigns to attract more residents, particularly those of the informal sector, to the insurance network.
In a call to action, the commissioner urged corporate organizations and people well intentional to take advantage of the scheme by sponsoring the less privileged, emphasizing that better access to medical care is a collective responsibility.
“The health insurance scheme is inclusive and in favor of the poor,” said Fanwo. “Students of tertiary institutions can access a full year of medical care for only ₦ 2,000, while children under five, pregnant women and other vulnerable groups enjoy completely free coverage under the Bellocare initiative of the Government.”
He added that the administration directed by Ododo is determined not to leave anyone behind in its impulse to improve medical care throughout the state of Kogi. “We are building a system in which Kogite is not denied quality medical attention due to financial limitations. This is the essence of the first governor's governance approach.”
Fanwo encouraged families to register their loved ones, emphasizing that the initiative is not only a policy, but an intervention that saves lives that aligns with the broadest vision of the governor hate of a healthier and more productive population.
