The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has placed the Nigerian artist Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, in an international surveillance list and alerted to Interpol on accusations of illegal behavior that involves a minor.
The agency's action follows a viral video in which the singer supposedly confessed to participate in inappropriate relationships with a 15 -year -old girl.
Despite the multiple calls, Speed Darlington did not appear before the agency, which caused the collaboration with the Nigeria immigration service, the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS) and Interpol.
“We have put them all in a procedure notice so that wherever they see it, they can take action,” said Naptip press director Vincent Adekoye. “We have given him enough opportunity.”
“We are working to limit their access to people, wherever he is hidden, because he alleges that he is a dangerous individual. He has openly admitted rape a 14 -year -old girl, and as recently as yesterday, he confessed to rape a 15 -year -old boy.
“We call any country where it is hidden to place it under surveillance, arrest it and deliver it to the appropriate authorities. It is alleged that he is an extremely dangerous man who must be eliminated from society,” he added.
In a challenging video response, Speed Darlington dismissed the accusations, saying:
“I'm not coming. Did you listen to me? I'm not going.
In addition, he challenged the evidence of the agency:
“Where is your evidence? Who is your plaintiff? You want to use me to collect the influence of social networks. 'Hey, look at us. We are doing our job. We invoke a celebrity and he came.'”
The singer also demanded compensation for any appearance:
“₦ 2.5 million is what I charge for the appearance. You want to pay me ₦ 2.5 million plus round trip tickets to me and my pa? Because I call that appearance.”
Naptip had declared that he was sought on June 27 for alleged crimes that include violation, cyber and cybestal harassment, citing his refusal to honor invitations issued after the controversial live broadcast.
The agency warned that their comments, if verified, could constitute violations of the Law of Application and Administration of Translation into Persons (Prohibition), 2015 and the Law of Cyber Crime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.), 2015.
Speed Darlington, however, insisted that the video was an advertising trick:
“There is no crime. All I did was try a trend. You have nothing. So I come there, there is a waste of time.”
He also threatened legal actions:
“Honestly, I will sue a for defamation of character, to spoil my name because you have no evidence.”
