The Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has requested an immediate cessation of hostilities between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the State of Israel, urging both parties to exercise the greatest restriction in the interest of regional and global peace.

A statement signed by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, in Abuja on Saturday, expressed serious concern about the recent escalation of hostilities between the two countries, marked by sustained missiles and aerial exchanges in both territories.

“The continuous retaliation cycle not only endangers civil life, but threatens to sink the broader Middle East into additional instability, with implications for international security and economic development.”

“As a nation deeply committed to the principles of peaceful coexistence, not aggression and multilateral diplomacy, Nigeria asks all those involved to prioritize dialogue on confrontation.”

“We urge the International Community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to intensify efforts towards immediate display and provide a platform for constructive participation.”

“We reiterate that military action is not a substitute for negotiation. The path to lasting peace lies in diplomacy, mutual respect and compliance with international law.

“Nigeria is ready to support all genuine efforts aimed at displaying tensions and promoting peace in the region,” says the statement.
