Enugu, the capital of the old Eastern region, is a hive of activities, since former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Firebrand South Africa, Julius Malema, and more than 20,000 lawyers converge for the 2025 General Conference of 2025 (AGC) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), which is formally opened on Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday, the president of the NBA, Mazi Afam Osigwe, directed thousands of lawyers on a health walk along the main roads of the capital city, as more lawyers and guests continued to arrive in the historical city.
The Secretary of the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, assured the participants a memorable experience, noting that Governor Peter Mbah had long prepared the State for great events such as the NBA AGC.
Speaking to journalists, Osigwe, who enjoyed the exciting moments that were already experienced in Enugu, said the city was an appropriate place for the topic of the conference, “highlight, stay high.”
“Enugu is the capital of the southeast region and also the home of hospitality, beauty and peace. That is why we chose the state of Enugu to organize our conference after moving from Port Harcourt.
“So, we are here in Enugu to enjoy the best people have to offer and also have a conversation about the construction of Nigeria and make it an economic giant in Africa. ENUGU is ready, we are very excited.
“Our main speaker, Julius Malema, is on the ground in Lagos and will be touched here tomorrow (Sunday). Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, the former president who will preside over the opening ceremony, will also be on the ground tomorrow.
“We are all established, we are very excited. We are going to make this an never forgotten experience, of the guy who will make you want to return every time for a conference in ENUGU,” he told reporters.
Also talking with journalists, Professor Onyia said that Dr. Peter Mbah’s government had strategically prepared Enugu to organize conferences such as NBA and many others.
“The State Government of Enugu under Dr. Peter Mbah, in its design and thought about tourism, hospitality and economic growth, had already taken into account most of what it is seeing in preparation at this time.
“Even without the NBA plan to come, we had already begun to plan what would happen if the NBA came here, if the Society of Nigerian engineers came here, or others,” he said.
He recalled: “Not long ago, Enugu Air was commissioned; not a long time ago, our 100 CNG buses and five modern transport terminals were commissioned. The reconstructed and renewed presidential of the hotel also shows up, just to name a few. We want to make sure that people move easily, feel safe and even love to live.
Meanwhile, one of the lawyers who are already in the state, Barr. Favor Abraham de Minna, a state of Niger, said he was enthusiastically waiting for a memorable experience in Enugu.
“This is my second time in Enugu. I came here for the NBA conference in 2005. Then, 20 years have passed. Today, it is a beautiful city. At least from the airport, we had Enugu inUum that really await us.
“So, we are here to explore, attend our conference, get more skills and knowledge, and then enjoy Enugu to the fullest. We have beautiful things like Okpa, Isiewu, be shocked and more. At least we go from the north, and we would love to explore the city,” he added.
Another visitor for the first time, Daisy ovrawah of the state of Delta, said he was “waiting for something totally different.”
“I like the airport, the city and the CNC bus that took us from the airport to the International Conferences Center. It was very convenient. I love ICC. This is very beautiful. I am impressed; I like what I am seeing,” he said.
Barr. Godswill Onyegbu, a abuja participant, said he expected “a very coordinated conference.”
“We had just arrived at the NBA conference and bus brought us to the place. I praise the governor for the CNG bus. In addition, to our way, I could see that Enugu was very clean,” he said.
Excmo Munirat Suleiman, magistrate of the Court of Consuetudinal Appeals, Abuja, praised the registration process as perfect.
“Having attended several NBA conferences that had many technical problems, with problems of collection of materials and registered, I am impressed that this experience of Enugu has been free of stress. Until now, very well, and I am enjoying the beautiful city of Enugu, the city of coal,” he said.
Highness Rufus Olarewaju Ajayi de Ekiti, who was in Enugu in 2001 for the opputa panel, said: “Since I came here last night, I think I am very impressed by what I have seen so far.”
