The former governor of the State of Anambra and the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labor Party, Peter Obi, clarified his recent message of goodwill to the newly crowned Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Amaja, after the concerns raised about the form of direction he used.
In a statement on Saturday, Obi explained that it was not intended to disrespect in his message to the monarch.
He pointed out that his choice of words arose from a personal reference style to people he has in high esteem as “my dear older brother.”
“I congratulated with my dear older brother, the newly crowned, his real majesty, oba rashidi Adewolu Laraja. I have read the concerns of those harmed by what they considered an incorrect direction. I respect the protocol and authority, and I try, as much as possible, to adhere them,” Obi said.
The former governor also explained that his affectionate direction form was not new, citing his long -standing reference to the OBI of Onitsha, his real majesty Igwe Alfred Achebe, as “my very dear older brother.”
“In matters of irregularities, the reason is important. I assure everything that my words were born of goodwill without obstacles,” he emphasized.
