The contribution management authority of the state of Kaduna (Kadchma) has lamented that only 10% of the population of Kaduna is covered by the scheme despite the media campaigns and the commitments of the community.
This was revealed by the general director of Kadchma, Malam Abubakar Hassan during the flag campaign for the informal sector held at the headquarters of the State Ministry of Health. Kaduna's contributory health scheme is directed to the informal sector for universal coverage.
Hassan said that the scheme has achieved total coverage in the formal sector, particularly among government employees and their families, stating that reaching those in the informal sector such as Okada passengers, merchants, people with physical problems, etc., remains an important challenge.

“Six years later, we have achieved a 100% coverage in the formal sector. But we still have a great gap to register the informal sector, this includes the organized private sector, Nano and small businesses, and homes,” “.
He stressed that only about 10% of the population of the state of Kaduna is currently covered by the scheme, despite the extensive media campaigns and the participation of the community over the years.
To this end, he commented that to increase the registration, Kadchma is associating with the Center for Communication and Social Impact (CCSI), with the technical and financial support of Algenderhealth, to launch a new campaign promoted by the community.
The initiative will be tested in three areas of the local government, Kudan, Chikun and Kagarko, which represents the three senatorial areas in the state.
In his comments, Mr. Jumare Abdulazeez, who represents the consortium led by Alngeerhealth, revealed that the campaign is backed by a subsidy of $ 4 million from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and is being implemented in the states of Kaduna, Kano and Lagos.
“Our goal is to mobilize the informal sector and reduce maternal mortality while improving general health indicators.”
Oluyemi Abodunrin, senior manager of CCSI programs, emphasized the organization's commitment to the success of the campaign, citing previous achievements in lakes where similar efforts increased the registration of the informal sector.
When marking the health campaign commissioner, Hajiya Umma K Ahmed said that the registration of the informal sector has been a problem, saying that with the recent development that I can answer that the registration unit will be a success story.
“We have 23 LGA in the State. But we are starting with the three LGA. I have no doubt in the capacity of the three presidents of LG. Health insurance through this contributory scheme is key to reverse that trend,” he said..
