The Oyo State Government has announced the introduction of a fully digital system for the approval of construction and survey plans, marking an important step towards modernizing urban management and improving transparency in the state’s land administration process.
This was announced by the Commissioner of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Williams Akin-Funmilayo, during a meeting with zonal directors of the town planning offices held on Monday at the Ministry’s Conference Room.
According to the Commissioner, the digital approval system represents a significant leap in infrastructure regulation, designed to eliminate the inefficiencies and irregularities that have characterized manual operations in the past.
“The new process is transparent, traceable and fully automated,” Akin-Funmilayo said. “It will feature enhanced security components, including a barcode verification system that authenticates each approved document.”
He stressed that the era of inefficiency and compromise within planning offices is over, emphasizing that the current administration of Governor Seyi Makinde will not tolerate excuses but will demand accountability and visible results that reflect its commitment to modernization.
Akin-Funmilayo also ordered task forces and law enforcement departments to intensify their monitoring operations, ensuring strict compliance with urban planning laws and penalizing developers who violate approved regulations.
He reiterated that the state government remains committed to safeguarding lives and property through strict compliance with planning laws and approved building regulations.
Highlighting the convenience of the new system, the Commissioner assured that citizens will now be able to apply for and process construction approvals remotely, from anywhere in the world, eliminating the need for middlemen or backroom deals.
He urged owners to adopt the digital platform and cooperate with the government for a more efficient, transparent and corruption-free approval process.
