Police release kidnapped Abuja residents

The Abuja Police have announced the release of some residents of Bwari Area Council kidnapped on January 2.

In a statement on Sunday morning, Abuja Police Spokesperson Josephine Adeh said the victims were released at around 11.30pm on Saturday.

However, he did not reveal the exact number of people who were released, but said they had been reunited “with their families.”

Adeh, the superintendent of police, said the police worked with the army and the victims were released “near Kajuru forest in Kaduna state at about 11:30 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2024.”

Following the relentless advance of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, in concerted efforts with troops of the Nigerian Army, in relation to the kidnappers who attacked Zuma 1 area in Bwari Area Council on January 2 2024, the FCT Police have successfully rescued the victims, reuniting them with their families. The operatives achieved this near Kajuru Forest in Kaduna State at about 11:30 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2024. The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Haruna G. Garba, psc, thanks the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for deploying the newly commissioned Special Intervention Squad. This deployment has enhanced the FCT’s existing security architecture and built public trust. CP Haruna G. Garba emphasizes the command’s commitment to maintaining robust security deployment in the area and other parts of the FCT for maximum maintenance of peace for all.
